Solar kit warranties: what to check in the terms

Read the panel, inverter, battery and workmanship terms separately, including exclusions, proof requirements and who handles claims.
The short answer
Quick answer
Check each component’s warranty separately and read its duration, exclusions, performance conditions, claim process and responsible contact. A long headline warranty does not mean every part, labour cost or loss is covered.
Separate the different promises
A kit can include different warranties for panels, inverters, batteries, frames and installation work. Record the provider and terms for each item rather than treating a single “system warranty” phrase as complete coverage.
Check when coverage begins, whether registration is needed, what documents must be retained and whether the warranty transfers if the property or product changes hands.
Look for exclusions and claim costs
- Check whether labour, diagnosis, removal, reinstallation and shipping are covered.
- Read exclusions for improper mounting, unauthorised modifications, environmental exposure or maintenance.
- Ask how performance claims are measured and what evidence is needed.
- Save the invoice, serial numbers, manuals, installer details and dated correspondence.
Quick answers
Common questions
Does a product warranty replace my consumer rights?
A manufacturer warranty is a separate promise. Check current UK consumer-rights guidance and the seller’s responsibilities for the transaction.
What warranty length should I choose?
Compare coverage, exclusions, provider reliability and claim costs, not just the number of years printed in an advert.
